Areas of Expertise

Optical Communications

My primary area of expertise is optical communications, including both optical fiber communications and free-space optical communications. Within these fields, my research efforts have focused mainly in two areas: Passive Optical Networks and Mobile Free-Space Optical Communications.

Application of Image and Signal Processing Techniques to Geotechnical Engineering and Hydrology

• Two-dimensional imaging solutions for digital images of vesicular basalt specimens.

• Analysis of laser scanning data of various rock core samples.

• Three-dimensional imaging solutions for CT scan images to analyze fracture patterns developed during unconfined compression testing of analog macroporous rock.

• A particle filter based approach for confined aquifer parameter estimation.
