Biography
Dr. Susan Syverud graduated with a Ph.D in Special Education in 2004 with a focus on Learning Disabilities from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
She currently serves as a Professor-in-Residence at Urban Professional Development School Woodland Acres Elementary and was previously a Program Leader for the Department of Exceptional, Deaf, and Interpreter Education and Human Services at UNF. She primarily teaches the undergraduate and graduate literacy courses in her department.
Her research interests include preventing reading failures, increasing academic achievement levels of struggling learners, and preparing highly qualified educators within an urban professional development school model.
Awards
2009 Exemplary Professional Development School Achievement Award- The University of North Florida/Duval County Schools Urban Professional Development School Partnership, an innovative partnership for preparing teachers in Jacksonville, was the inaugural recipient of the Award for Exemplary Professional Development School Achievement.
