Biography
Stephynie Chapman Perkins is an associate professor in the Department of Communication. She has been a member of the University of North Florida faculty since 2003.
She came to the Jacksonville campus after a career in media and public relations that informed her classroom teaching, including three years as a writing instructor at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga.
Dr. Perkins' writing experience began the University of Tennessee Knoxville's Daily Echo. She later became the editor for the advertising supplement. Her first internship was at the Chattanooga Times where tales of her adventures serving as a tour guide for fledgling rappers opened an opportunity to cover news at a country radio station.
Her first love is writing, especially police reporting, but her interest in news continues to shape her public relations sensibilities. She believes that sound content transcends media fads.
Dr. Perkins is the proud mother of a soccer player-cum-ballerina who has been her greatest teacher.
