Dr. Choi is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of North Florida. He has keen interest in engineering education and has continually producing scholarly publications. Dr. Choi has taught a wide spectrum of courses in the areas of microcontroller applications, control system design, electromagnetics, circuit analysis, electronics, signals and systems, senior design projects, and others. His work in engineering education has been published regularly and presented in first-tier engineering education conferences. He has received several teaching awards and was listed in the 2003-2004 Who's Who Among American Teachers. Dr. Choi's research interests include computational algorithms for controls and microcontroller-based system design. His current research projects include the development of stable computational techniques for solving state-space control problems and embedded control systems. Dr. Choi holds a current and active Professional Engineer license (Florida). Dr. Choi worked as an engineer in China for a number of years.

Professor of the Year, 2010, awarded by the Northeast Florida engineering societies.

Recent activities in the past three years:

The Omnii Sense project, $10K funded by MegaWatt Ventures Competition, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, 2011-2012. The PI's were Jerry Merckel and Chiu Choi.

Co-PI of a project titled “Sensor Arrays for Multiple Applications” funded by the U.S. Army. The project was proposed by the UNF Sensors Group that received a funding of 1.4 million in the period from 2009-2010.

Received a UNF summer undergraduate teaching grant in 2009. The total amount was $7,500. The outcome of the grant was a website of embedded reference designs covering sensors, motors, motor drivers, LCD displays, keypad interfaces, and other embedded electronic circuits. This project was completed in fall 2009.
