Biography

Sharon Tamargo Wilburn is a Professor, Director of the Center for Aging Research and Director of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. She founded and directed the Center for Alcohol/Other Drug Studies for five years and served as a program director for five different programs over her tenure at UNF. While Dr. Wilburn’s focus is on community based participatory learning, research and evaluation, she has numerous publications and professional presentations on aging, gender issues, multiculturalism, and conflict transformation. She has served on over 100 university/college committees, 25 professional organization committees, and 50 community committees. Prior to joining UNF, Dr. Wilburn practiced dental hygiene and was one of the founders of the dental hygiene program at what is now Florida State College at Jacksonville. She also worked as a rehabilitation counselor and DUI/DWI evaluator and instructor. She has been a clinical supervisor in psychiatric hospitals, drug treatment facilities and a military facility. She also maintained a part-time clinical practice for over 25 years.
