Areas of Expertise

My research includes three lines of inquiry: 1) stereotyping and child abuse, 2) close relationships, and 3) best practices in teaching research. I employ neurobiological, physiological, and psychological measures of personality (e.g., stereotyping, cognitive style) to examine responses to instances of child abuse. I also examine individuals’ propensity to engage in strategic self-presentation in the initiation, maintenance, and dissolution of relationships. Finally, I examine ways in which we can best facilitate the transformation of undergraduates into scholars (e.g., integration of study abroad and service learning into research, written/oral communication of research, technology in research, avoiding plagiarism).
