Administration and FinanceTip of the Week - May 19, 2008Don't Get Hooked by Phishing Scams"We suspect an unauthorized transaction on your account. To ensure that your account is not compromised, please click the link below and confirm your identity." Sound familiar? This is often the beginning of a phishing attack. Phishing is the act of sending an e-mail that leads consumers to counterfeit websites designed to trick recipients into divulging financial data such as credit card numbers, account usernames, passwords and social security numbers. The email appears to come from banking institutions, charities, PayPal, e-Bay, etc. Information Technology Services warns students, faculty, and staff that they should not divulge personal or financial information to web pages received in an email. Visit the ITS phishing web page for more information. Questions about this tip may be directed to the ITS Help Desk at ext. 4357 (HELP) or helpdesk@unf.edu.
