Attenuata holly
Family Aqiufoliaceae
Description:
The attenuata holly is a hybrid between two holly species
that are native to Florida,
the dahoon holly and the America
holly. Several cultivars exist with slight variations. The hybrid is a
vigorous, adaptable garden plant. The hybrids have become so popular in local nurseries
and gardens that they have replaced the two parent species. This plant begins
life with an upright, conical canopy that becomes rounded with age. Like its
parents, the bright red fruits of seed-bearing plants are colorful in winter.
Fruits are a valuable wildlife food.
