Description:

This is a genus of sixteen to twenty-six species, depending on the scientific authority, found mostly in warm parts of the northern hemisphere. Arizona cypress is a conifer of the mountains of the southwestern U.S. and northern Mexico. The plants on campus represent a horticultural selection known as ‘Blue Ice’ that was selected for its blue foliage. Arizona cypress has been used for timber and as Christmas trees. Medicinal uses include treatment of burns, ringworm and other skin problems.

Size:

Medium-sized tree to about fifty feet tall.

Care Instructions:

Light: full sun

Water: very drought tolerant when established

Soil: well-drained, no other special requirements

In northeast Florida, this is an easy tree for a sunny, dry site. It tends to keep foliage to the ground.
