Description:

About fifty species of Alstroemeria are native to South America. Hybrids are popular in gardens and as cut flowers. Most are weak growers in north Florida. It flowers in late spring. The flowers of parrot flower are red with yellow and green markings and spots in the throat. The plant is dormant in winter.

Size:

A small herbaceous plant with flower spikes reaching two to three feet tall.

Care Instructions:

Light: part shade

Water: well-drained soil, tolerates some drought

Soil: average garden soil

This is an easy plant to grow in a moist, well-drained soil in part shade. Parrot flower can spread aggressively and may not be appropriate for a small garden.
