Your student’s college search is an important decision-making time for the entire family. Here are some pointers for making this transition time smoothly.
How much do you have to spend on tuition, books, housing, etc.? How far away are you willing to let your student go to school? Can freshmen have a car on campus? Is on-campus housing required? These are all important questions to consider. The best place to start your quest for the answers is online. We invite you to explore our website to help you get a game plan for your student’s transition to college.
The first major step in securing your student’s financial aid package is filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can fill out the form beginning the January prior to the academic year for which you are applying. In order to complete your FAFSA, it is important that you have your completed tax returns available. If it’s too soon to fill out the FAFSA and your tax returns yet, start collecting all the necessary documentation now. The earlier you submit your FAFSA the better chance your student will have his/her full financial needs met.
Now is the time to allow your child to take control of their college search process. It’s important for you to discuss the logistics of his/her decisions, but ultimately it is your student who will have to live with this choice for the next four years. Give your child responsibility for calling the UNF Admissions office to ask questions about his/her application, financial aid, and scholarship options. At UNF, our staff is available via phone, email, and online chat so it’s easy to get in touch.
Our Admissions team keeps an active presence on social media networks like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We encourage you to follow us to stay up-to-date on deadlines and other happenings. You can also sign up to join our email list and receive occasional updates directly from our office.
