1.“What is UNF Reads!?”
2. Why has UNF instituted a common reading program?
3. How was Rock, Paper Scissors chosen?
4. Will this book be used in my classes?
5. How can I get a copy of the book?
6. What should I do before I arrive on campus?
1. UNF Reads is the freshman students’ first introduction to the academic expectations of the University. As a UNF freshman, you should read “Rock, Paper, Scissors: Game Theory in Everyday Life" before arriving on campus in August.
2. The goals of this program are
- To create a university-wide learning community;
- To provide students with models for academic discourse and opportunities to engage in effective discussion;
- To demonstrate that important issues and new ideas cross disciplinary boundaries.
3.The General Education Council worked collaboratively with the English department Composition Committee to select the UNF Reads book for 2010. The Council members understood that the ideal selection would be accessible and interesting to freshmen and have the potential to have wide-spread connections throughout the curriculum. A variety of factors including cost, readability, length, applicability across a wide range of courses narrowed the list down.
4. Students are strongly encouraged to read the selected UNF READS! book because many professors will be drawing from the book to frame discussions and writing assignments. Also, there will be discussion groups and other events surrounding the book that you will participate in.
5. All freshmen will be given one copy of the book at Orientation.
6. Read the book prior to arriving on campus. Frequently visit the UNF Reads website for updates on coming events.
