Pre-Law program

What internship, fieldwork, service learning, and/or practicum opportunities are available in your program?

The Pre-Law Program offers an Internship at the city of Jacksonville’s Office of General Counsel, which provides the student with an opportunity to experience working in an actual law firm and to explore a wide variety of legal specialties. This Municipal Law Clinic falls under the title of legislative practicum for which a student can receive 3 POS credit hours.

What opportunities are available for undergraduate research or creative projects in your program?

 On occasion, when the class is taught, Legal Research and Writing offers student the opportunity to learn how to conduct legal research, as well as, how to write legal memos and briefs. The student can receive 3 POS or CCJ credit hours for this course.

What other transformational and experiential learning opportunities exist for your students?  

The director of the Pre-Law Program teaches a Mock Trial class every summer under POS and/or CCJ. The course explores the planning, preparation, and presentation of a case for trial. Each class incorporates lectures from the professor and visits from local judges and lawyers from a wide range of specialties. During the course of the semester, students are given many opportunities to deliver opening and closing statements and conduct direct and cross examination in a mock trial setting. The student receives 3 POS or CCJ summer credit hours for this course.
