College and Departmental Opportunities for Transformational Learning

Department of Chemistry and Physics

What opportunities are available for undergraduate research or creative projects in your department?

Students in chemistry and physics can participate in original research in areas of organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, condensed matter physics (experimental and theoretical), sensor development, theoretical astrophysics, and experimental and computational nuclear physics. We also provide opportunities for research in biochemistry and organic chemistry at Mayo Clinic. For example, Jonathon Brewer completed a degree in physics this month (12/2006) and worked on a research project mentored by James Garner. He gave an oral presentation and wrote a report on his project. The title of his report is An Exact Pair Interaction Model for the Magnetization of III-VI Magnetic Semiconductors .
