Mission Statement

 

The Sport Leadership program provides an academic foundation in sports management/administration.

 

Program goals/objectives are aligned with professional standards including the Florida's Accomplished Practices for Teachers, standards for the National Association of Sport and Physical Education (NASPE), and the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM).

 

Student Learning Outcomes

 

UNF Sports Leadership graduates will be able to:

Content/Discipline Knowledge & Skills

• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of professional organizations and their importance in sport management.
  
  
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of professional practice in the sport industry.
  
  
• Gain knowledge of legal concepts in sport areas they are most likely to encounter in practice.
  
  
• Understand that sport is influenced by cultural traditions, social values, and psychosocial experiences.
  
  
• Understand that budget and finance is critical to all sport related industries.
  
  
• Understand operations, structures, and functions of sport organizations. 
  
  

Critical Thinking Skills

• Apply fundamental marketing concepts to the sport industry.
  
  
• Use data, research, and theory for making instructional decisions.
  
  
• Apply concepts of management and leadership in sports.
  
   

Communication Skills

• Use principles of interpersonal communication and mass communication.
  
  
• Develop skills in the selection and use of technology to assist all students in learning.

Assessment Approaches

 

UNF graduates of the B.A.E program in Sports Leadership will demonstrate mastery of content knowledge and teaching skills through proficiency on course embedded assessments and activities at a proficiency level expected of a teacher candidate. It is expected that Sports Leadership candidates apply knowledge throughout the program by demonstrating understanding, competence, and effective implementation. Assessment strategies include:

• Assignments and formal assessments to demonstrate knowledge.
• Formative evaluation of class discussions, reflections, and critiques which provide evidence of developing ideas and opportunities for the demonstration of knowledge;
• Analysis of teaching performances in field experiences; and
• Assignments and other formal formative, summative, and authentic assessments.
