PROFESSIONAL HEALTH STUDIES
Mission Statement
The BSH Professional Health Studies track is designed to meet the needs of the student with an earned associate in science degree in various allied health fields of study. The mission of the track is to prepare allied health professionals to meet the challenging health care environment, future graduate study, and career mobility.
Student Learning Outcomes
A graduate of the BSH in Professional Health Studies track will
Content/Discipline Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrate knowledge of changing population demographics in the United States and the impact of those changes on health and health care.
Demonstrate an understanding of the research process with emphasis on studies in the health care field.
Demonstrate an understanding of broad disease processes including principles of prevention, intervention, and treatment.
Demonstrate a knowledge of the concepts of health education, including instructional methodologies.
Demonstrate a knowledge of the tenets of planning and evaluating health programs.
Critical Thinking Skills
Develop a theory-based framework for health education programming.
Organize subject areas comprising the scope of a program in logical sequence.
Demonstrate ethical behavior and professional accountability in all interactions with faculty and colleagues.
Communication Skills
Demonstrate effective, written and oral communication skills.
Develop and execute professional presentations.
Assessment Approaches
Graduates of the BSH Professional Health Studies track will demonstrate mastery of content through proficiency on course embedded assessments and evaluation measures.
Indirect measures will also be advanced to assess the identified student learning outcomes including such measures as alumni surveys, student perception surveys, employer surveys and employment rates in health-related professions.
