Mission Statement
The mission of the Department of Art and Design is to provide outstanding undergraduate teaching in the disciplines of studio arts, photography, graphic design and art history, encouraging analytical, applied and theoretical skills while providing opportunities for transformational experiences such as internships and study tours abroad.

Assessment Approaches
Numerous direct and indirect measures of student learning will be employed to assess mastery of the intended student learning outcomes. Course embedded assessments using a defined scoring rubric (criterion-based rating scale) and portfolio reviews will be principle direct assessment approaches. These direct measures will be supplemented by numerous indirect measures such as alumni surveys, graduating senior surveys and other student perception surveys.
