Assessment Approaches
The principle method to assess student mastery of the intended student learning outcomes will be a capstone course required of all senior Spanish majors. The faculty member for the course shall be the assigned mentor for the senior students in the course and will advise and guide the students in the creation of a portfolio for the purpose of assessing the accomplishment of the student learning outcomes. The Spanish faculty as a whole will meet to conduct an individual assessment of each major using a well-defined scoring rubric. The faculty as a whole will also assess essays and research papers employing a scoring rubric. These direct measures of student performance will be supplemented by indirect assessment measures such as alumni surveys, graduating senior surveys and other student perception assessment instruments.
