Degree Program Requirements

Undergraduate Programs

There are several state mandates that undergraduate degree programs must adhere to:

Limited Access. Pursuant to Florida Statute 1007.31, The State Board of Education shall establish criteria for assigning limited access status to an educational program and a process for the periodic review of such programs so that a university board of trustees can determine the need for retention or removal of limited access status. In addition limited access status must meet certain criteria outlined in rule 6C-6.001 Admissions 11(e) and be approved by the Board of Trustees and Board of Governors.

120 Hour Rule. Pursuant to Florida Statute 1007.25, a baccalaureate degree program shall require no more than 120 semester hours of college credit, including 36 semester hours of general education coursework, unless prior approval has been granted by the Board of Governors.

Common Prerequisites. Pursuant to Florida Statute 1007.25, common degree program prerequisites shall be offered and accepted by all state universities and community colleges, except in cases approved by the State Board of Education pursuant to s. 1001.02(2)(x). Further information about common prerequisites and how to alter them can be found on the FACTS site. Once on the site, choose the Advising Manuals link on the left and then choose the Common Prerequisite Manual from the selection box.
