Although Scott Henley is a relative newcomer to the world of
commercial real estate, he is already establishing a name for himself
in the field.
Henley, who is vice president of the office
division for Coldwell Banker Commercial Benchmark, recently was named
Broker of the Year by the National Association of Industrial and Office
Properties (NAIOP). He also has been the top producer in commercial
real estate for the last three years for Coldwell Banker and has been
named an "Up and Comer" by the Jacksonville Business Journal.
road to success started at UNF's Coggin College of Business where he
lined up an internship at Coldwell Banker that eventually resulted in
his first professional position. In addition to the internship, Henley
also recalled his UNF education prepared him for his career by giving
him a solid background in understanding the day-to-day workings of his
chosen field. "The small classes and the faculty who brought a lot of
real world experience to their teaching made all the difference." He
specifically recalled classes by Drs. Jay Coleman, Sid Rosenberg and
Cheryl Frohlich as being instrumental in his success.
wasn't all about classroom experience. Henley made many friends at UNF
who continue to be colleagues today forming the basis of a solid
professional network. "Some of the friendships gained through UNF were
invaluable." Those friendships were formed in a variety of activities,
including his involvement in the Finance and Investment Society, a
student club of which he was vice president. One such activity was a
trip to Washington, D.C., in which he recalled "it was exciting to see
how the process of government actually works."
graduation, Henley has maintained a connection with UNF through the
Coggin College of Business alumni chapter where he said he enjoys
meeting with alumni on a regular basis. Other civic activities include
working with Habijax, the Jacksonville chapter of Habitat for Humanity
and the NAIOP Easter Basket project.
When not working, Henley
and his wife Stephanie love outdoor activities, such as boating,
fishing, surfing and being involved in activities with their son Jacob.
he looks back on his young career, Henley points to his selection of
UNF as a turning point. After attending St. Johns River Community
College, Henley said he wanted to "try something different" other than
the traditional business degree. That's when he decided to specialize
in real estate and come to Jacksonville. "I wanted to stay at a
relatively small school and didn't want to move out of Florida. UNF was
the right choice for me."
