A common denominator in much of Karin Frosio's life has been her love of
music. She has managed to incorporate music into nearly every career pursuit,
including health care – her area of training at UNF.
Graduating in 1990 with a master's in health administration, Frosio has never
strayed far from music whether in her career or her volunteer activities. The
benefits of music as an integrated method for learning and as therapy for both
young and old are evident in nearly everything she has undertaken.
For example, Frosio is currently involved with Body and Soul, a non-profit
organization designed to blend the resources of Jacksonville's arts community
into enhancing the quality of health care. Frosio combines her music talents
with those of hundreds of Jacksonville's musicians and artists to enlighten,
entertain and educate thousands of patients, family members and staff at area
health care facilities. Her goal is to use her voice to enhance the healing
process.
Frosio's love of music extends to other groups as well. In 1995, she combined
her love of music and education by establishing HeartSong Inc. As a licensed
Kindermusik educator, Frosio and her staff bring the benefits and joy of musical
learning and movement to children, newborn through 7 years of age. Starting out
in her own home, she eventually taught out of churches before renting her own
space.
Her involvement with music and children is also evident directing the Beaches
Children's Choir, a new non-profit initiative for children in 2nd to 5th grade.
In its inaugural year, the choir has 18 members who plan to perform throughout
the area.
If all that isn't enough, in between, she raised two sons, Ben and Andrew,
and also has a stepson, Brett, and a stepdaughter, Gabrielle. Frosio also
manages to teach private piano lessons and plays in a band with her husband, Al.
She sings and plays light percussion in the three-member band, Not Unheard,
which performs in a number of metro venues.
The administrative side of Frosio's career extends to a variety of health
care positions. She was the admissions director at Fair Oaks Hospital in Delray
Beach before moving to Jacksonville in 1987 where she was a health industry
analyst for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida. After taking some time off
for a family and to earn her master's degree, Frosio became an administrator at
Discovery Montessori School in Jacksonville Beach where she managed a staff of
11 at two locations. That experience then propelled her to establishing
Heartsong Inc., where she handles administrative, marketing and teaching
responsibilities.
Frosio is the first to admit she is surprised how the various pieces of her
life have come together in ways she would not have predicted. "I'm blessed to
have been able to take my creative passion for music and children and my
administrative background and master's degree and have them all come together so
perfectly."
She credits UNF with being the organization which gave her the tools to
succeed. "It gave me the confidence to be an entrepreneur."
