Biology Scholarships

Hercules Endowed Scholarship
     
The Department of Biology is offering one or more full and partial tuition scholarships (typically up to $1000) endowed by the Ashland Hercules Foundation for the 2012/2013 academic year.  Scholarships plus some book allowances are available for declared academic majors in Biology who plan to pursue graduate school in field or laboratory biology following graduation.  Candidate students should meet the following minimum qualifications:
  1. Declared major in Biology.
  2. Sophomore, Junior, or Senior class standing during the 2012/2013 academic year.
  3. Fulltime student status taking a minimum of 12 hours at UNF during the 2012 Fall and 2013 Spring terms.
  4. Minimum overall GPA of 3.00 and minimum GPA of 3.00 in major with a minimum of 1 semester completed at UNF.
  5. Reside in Florida for tuition purposes.  
 
 

Interested candidates should complete a formal application and return it with a copy of your transcripts (unofficial is fine) to the Biology Department, 

Building 59, Room 1300.

Eddy M. Skolfield Scholarship
     

$2,000 to a Biology major. Candidate students should meet the following minimum qualifications:

  1. Be a junior or senior level biology major.
  2. Be a full-time student taking at least 12 credit hours in Fall 2012 and Spring 2013.
  3. Have completed a FAFSA application online.
  4. Be a legal Florida resident for tuition purposes.
  5. Complete an application packet including:
    • An application form.
    • A brief statement describing your interest in a career in science.
    • *Two letters of support. (*Recommended)  
    • A copy of your current transcript.

  • be enrolled full time at UNF (Spring 2013 semester) and have a UNF science and math GPA of 3.5 and an overall GPA of 3.3.
  • express an intent to apply to a medical professional program upon graduation (medicine, dentistry, optometry, physician assistance, pharmacy, podiatry or veterinary medicine) with preference being given to those who seek to become dentists or pharmacists, and
  • have completed 24 credit hours of the 36 credit hours represented in the following premed courses: General Chemistry I, General Chemistry II, Calculus I, General Biology I, General Biology II, Physics I, Physics II, Organic Chemistry I and Organic Chemistry II.

  • be enrolled full time at UNF (Spring 2013 semester) and have a science and math GPA of 3.7 and an overall GPA of 3.5.
  • express an intent to apply to a medical professional program upon graduation (medicine, dentistry, optometry, physician assistance, pharmacy, podiatry or veterinary medicine) with preference being given to those who seek to become physicians, and
  • have completed 24 credit hours of the 36 credit hours represented in the following premed courses: General Chemistry I, General Chemistry II, Calculus I, General Biology I, General Biology II, Physics I, Physics II, Organic Chemistry I and Organic Chemistry II.
