About Universitat de València

Founded in 1499, the Universitat de València (UV) is one of the oldest surviving universities in Spain. The university's student population is around 55,000, spread among three campuses; business classes are offered at the Tarongers campus. The combination of the university's own renown and its location in the cultural mecca of Valencia draws hundreds of international students to visit each year.  With arts and culture venues, sports activities, and student volunteer groups, study abroad students will find plenty to do during their free time. Universitat de València offers some business courses in English.  Students may participate in spring semester only or the fall/spring academic year.

Valencia is the capital city of the Kingdom of Valencia, and home to the largest port on the Mediterranean Western coast.  The third largest city in Spain, Valencia has a population of around 809,000. Students can stroll through the the silk exchange market, or "La Lonja de la Seda", catch a movie at the Plaça de l'Ajuntament, or attend the Las Fallas festival in spring to sample paella valenciana.  The average daily temperature in Valencia ranges from about 52ºF in January to 78ºF in August.

Submit the following materials directly to Kate Mattingly Learch (Building 10, Room 2125) not to the exchange partner or other UNF offices:

  • Program application process (application to be completed after nomination)
  • 2 letters of recommendation from UNF professors
  • Copy of valid passport
  • Updated resume
  • 4 passport-sized photos (name written on back)

Submit the following materials directly to the UNF International Center (Building 58E, Room 2300) not to the exchange partner or other UNF offices:

  • UNF Study Abroad Information Packet (available from the International Center)
  • Copy of visa, once obtained
  • International health insurance information, once obtained

Other Information

Accommodations

UV works with you find accommodations in Valencia, either on or off campus. Rent for furnished communal apartments averages about €225 per month. It is common to pay a deposit of one month's rent and a small contract fee.

Academic Calendar

Spanish Language Courses

UV offers a 3-week, 45-credit intensive Spanish language course before the fall semester begins for a fee of approximately €290.  A 60-credit semester-long Spanish language course is offered during the spring semester for a fee of approximately €370.

Visa & Health Insurance Information

Students are required to individually obtain the necessary visa for study abroad prior to departure. Most semester programs are more than 90 days. Students should visit the U.S. Department of State webpage which links to each country's Embassy. Many visa applications must be made in person — please plan ahead!
