The International Office will help reserve
accommodations for exchange students either in a dormitory (€200-€250 per month but limited availability) or with a host family. Alternatively, you may search for accommodations in shared apartments or flats, which generally run €250-€300 per month. A deposit of 2-3 months' rent is usually required before moving in.
The fall (or "winter") semester runs from October to February. The spring (or "summer") semester runs from March to July. Orientations are held the week before each semester begins. Students must plan to stay in Germany until the end of their examination period.
Hochschule Bremen offers a free one-week intensive German language course before the semester begins. Three-credit German language courses are available upon request and cost approximately €160. Students must complete a placement test for both types of courses.
Students are required to individually obtain the necessary visa for
study abroad prior to departure. Most semester programs are more than 90
days. Students should visit the U.S. Department of State webpage
which links to each country's Embassy. Many visa applications must be
made in person — please plan ahead! For additional visa information and
to discuss UNF's requirement for health insurance coverage, please visit
UNF's International Center (Building 58E, Room 2300).
