About Sun Yat-sen University's School of Business

Opened in 1985, Sun Yat-sen University's School of Business is one of the earliest business schools to be established in China. Based on the profound cultural and academic tradition of the parent university, and supported by overseas and domestic foundations, the SYS - School of Business has become one of the best institutions for training high-caliber business executives and entrepreneurs in China. The main campus of the university is located in Guangzhou, the center city of the Zhujiang River Delta. With a total area of 6.17 square kilometers, the university has four campuses, three of which are located Guangzhou, and the fourth in Zhuhai City.

Guangzhou is a port on the Pearl River, navigable to the South China Sea, and is located about 120 km (75 miles) northwest of Hong Kong. As of the 2000 census, the city has a population of 6 million, and an urban area population of roughly 11.85 million. The provincial government's official estimate of the metropolitan area's population at the end of 2006 was 9,754,600. Guangzhou's urban land area is the third largest in China, behind only Beijing and Shanghai.

Program Information

This program offers 6–7 specific undergraduate courses in English per semester.  Note: The application deadlines for this program are  March 15 for fall semester, and September 15 for spring semester.

  • Online Program Application (to be submitted after nomination - after March 15 or September 15) **Please use Internet Explorer for best results when completing the application
  • Course Selection

  • UNF Study Abroad Information Packet (available from the International Center)
  • Copy of visa, once obtained

Accommodation

Sun Yat-sen assists students in finding off-campus accommodations. Apartments usually cost $220–$290 per month.

Academic Calendar

The fall semester runs from September to January; depending on professors, students may be able to schedule their final exams early and complete the semester in late December. The spring semester runs from early March to early July.  View Sun Yat-sen's academic calendar. Approximate Fall 2014 dates: September 15, 2014-January 18, 2015.

Chinese Language Courses

Sun Yat-sen University invites teachers from the School of Chinese as a Second Language to give lectures on Chinese language and culture. These include elementary conversation language and Chinese culture. These will be arranged once a week for 1.5 hours each session. Tuition for this program is waived for exchange students; participants only pay for the textbook. A certificate signed by the instructor will be issued after the participant has successfully completed the training. UNF students cannot receive academic credit for this course or other languge courses offered at Sun Yat-Sen.

Visa & Health Insurance Information

Students are required to individually obtain the necessary visa for study abroad prior to departure. Most semester programs are more than 90 days. Students should visit the U.S. Department of State webpage which links to each country's Embassy. Many visa applications must be made in person — please plan ahead!
