Sun Yat-sen assists students in finding off-campus accommodations. Apartments usually cost $220–$290 per month.
Academic Calendar
The fall semester runs from September to January; depending on professors, students may be able to schedule their final exams early and complete the semester in late December. The spring semester runs from early March to early July. View Sun Yat-sen's academic calendar.
Chinese Language Courses
Sun Yat-sen University invites teachers from the School of Chinese as a Second Language to give lectures on Chinese language and culture. These include elementary conversation language and Chinese culture. These will be arranged once a week for 1.5 hours each session. Tuition for this program is waived for exchange students; participants only pay for the textbook. A certificate signed by the instructor will be issued after the participant has successfully completed the training.
Internship Opportunity
Note: Internships are very competitive and not guaranteed.
Sun Yat-sen University has a broad relationship with different types of companies and encourages students to have an internship during their stay at the school. Internship assignments may vary in length according to the needs of the organization, however internships normally last 2–6 months. Internships may be paid or unpaid. Complete the internship application [pdf], and provide one letter of recommendation from a professor.
Visa & Health Insurance Information
Students are required to individually obtain the necessary visa for study abroad prior to departure. Most semester programs are more than 90 days. Students should visit the U.S. Department of State webpage which links to each country's Embassy. Many visa applications must be made in person — please plan ahead!
