There are few life experiences that are truly transformational; living abroad is one of them. Simply by living in another culture, you will rethink your own opinions on everything from politics to food. You will truly understand how large and diverse our world is, and you will thirst to experience more of it. Most students return home from their first international experience a changed person!

Generally, no. In fact, most of our exchange partners are located in cities and countries in which the cost of living is significantly lower than Jacksonville's. If you plan ahead so that you are not paying for housing here, you can actually study abroad and save money, even after you purchase your plane ticket.  Plus, the Coggin College of Business and the UNF International Center offer numerous scholarship opportunities.

Yes. You'll have to make a commitment, but it's certainly possible and you'll gain a valuable life–long skill. Either you can spend 2–4 months at a language institute abroad learning the language intensively, or, if you have a basis for the language, you should be able to raise your level sufficiently during that time. Then you can begin studying business at the exchange institution. 

 No. Cultural attitudes determine everything from food to business practices. Education, too, varies by culture. In some countries, you will not have textbooks. Lecture notes and handouts are your learning materials. In other nations, internet research is a major learning tool. Lecture styles also vary from straight lecture to interaction and teamwork.

Our exchange partners will help you to find a place to live. There are several options. If you prefer a bit more privacy, you can always choose to stay in a dormitory, to rent an apartment or a house with other students, or even to stay in a hotel if you can afford it. Housing recommendations will appear on individual program pages. 

Traveling in other countries is oftentimes easier than traveling around the United States. In most countries, the public transportation is so efficient that students do not even use a car, much less own one. While Madrid's metro system may be confusing at first, you'll soon wonder how people in Jacksonville get around without a subway! The safest modes of transportation in your country will be discussed during you exchange university's orientation.

Yes. International internships can be difficult to find, as many of them require fluency in the language of that country. However, interning abroad can be a very rewarding experience. If you do find an internship while you are abroad and want to receive credit toward your degree, make sure you meet with you major's internship coordinator for approval.
