Master of Business Administration

Program Overview 

The University of North Florida opened and began its MBA program in 1972. The program gained AACSB accreditation in 1981 and was successfully re-accredited in 1998 under its new title, AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

The purpose of the UNF MBA program is to prepare qualified men and women for positions of leadership in business organizations. The program is designed to meet the graduate educational needs of working individuals, and those pursuing their degree on either a part–time or full–time basis.

The curriculum focuses on developing a general management perspective, and in–depth knowledge of the various skills required to manage effectively in a rapidly changing and increasingly technical and global environment. A variety of approaches to learning are used, including lectures, case analysis, and group work and team building exercises. The curriculum allows students to concentrate in a functional discipline or participate in one of two certificate programs.

The Students 

The MBA program enrolls about 600 students, mostly working professionals of the Northeast Florida area. The typical MBA student takes two courses each term while working full–time. About 20 percent of the MBA's are full–time students taking three or more courses per term. This mix of employed, part–time students having several years managerial experience with full–time students enhances the classroom environment substantially. To be accessible, all graduate classes are offered both Monday–Wednesday or Tuesday–Thursday afternoons or evenings 4:30pm–10:15pm. Some courses are offered on weekends.

The MBA program is designed for students with any bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university. The average MBA student has a GMAT score of 530. Students with non–business degrees prepare for graduate business study by completing appropriate Foundation Courses.

• Some elective courses require additional prerequisites. You must complete course prerequisites before registering for any graduate course. Refer to the Course Catalog for details.
• If you choose to pursue one of the approved concentrations, you must contact your graduate advisor, Cheryl Campbell, before you graduate. The concentration must be reflected on your Program of Study in order to be reflected on your transcript (even if you have fulfilled the requirements).

Master of Business Administration Curriculum 

The MBA program is 36 semester hours (9 core courses plus 3 electives). While the MBA is designed as a generalist degree, concentrations allow MBA students to design an individualized degree curriculum that allows for specialization in a functional specialty. These concentrations thus provide the student with a unique opportunity to add extra credentials to their resume.

Electives/Concentrations: 9 Hours (Select One Track) 

Grade of "B" or better is required in all concentration classes.

Concentrations require the student to successfully complete electives that have been approved for their chosen concentration. The 9 hours for the concentration excludes hours taken as part of the core MBA curriculum. In order to count an elective course toward a concentration, students must successfully complete the course by earning a B (3.0) or better.

Students in the MBA program may choose the general business track or one of the following concentrations:

Notices:

• Electives – 6000-level business or approved non-business courses. Most are offered only once annually.
• Complete course prerequisites before registering for any graduate course.
• Your GPA will reflect all repeated courses even though credit for a course may be received only once.
• Prerequisites must be completed before registering for FIN 6406 (ECO 6415 must be taken prior to or with FIN 6406).
• MAN 6726 - Business Policy must be taken in the last semester. Required that FIN 6406 and MAR 6805 be completed prior to enrolling in MAN 6726. Business Policy requires permission to register. MAN 6726 requires permission to register. Apply online via the Advising webpage.
• A UNF graduate grade point average of 3.0 or better is required at all times in the MBA program. Any grade point below 3.0 will prevent registration in MAN6726 and graduation.
• Any grade below a “C” is never permitted.
• All courses taken in the MBA program must be taken at UNF
• Contact your academic advisor for details about how special exceptions can be made.
• Any approved transfer courses have additional restrictions; for these courses any grade below a "B" is never permitted.
