President and CEO of FPIC Insurance Group, Inc., John Byers was named Ernst & Young Florida Entrepreneur of the Year based on his leadership of FPIC and his other business and community-based activities. Under his leadership, FPIC was named by Forbes as one of the 100 Most Trustworthy Companies in America. With a strong commitment to corporate community investment, he is a driving force behind FPIC’s support of a number of First Coast philanthropic organizations. An advocate for higher education, he has served on the UNF Brooks College of Health Dean’s Council and is a member of the Executive Advisory Board of the Clemson University College of Business & Behavioral Science.

As the founding broker, President and CEO of Prudential Network Realty, Linda Sherrer has guided the company from its inception in 1988. She has over 30 years of experience in real estate and was named Prudential Real Estate Affiliates' National Broker of the Year. She was a gubernatorial appointee on the JIA Board of Directors, served on the Florida Association of Realtors and IM Sulzbacher Center Board of Directors, past president of Northeast Florida Association of REALTORS, and formerly held the position of Commodore at Epping Forest Yacht Club. Linda also served on the Jacksonville Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta Board of Directors for 6 years, including two terms as chairman.

Distinguished Professor

An accomplished author of scholarly articles, books, macroeconomic analyses and economic impact studies, Paul Mason continues to research issues including education finance, the economics profession and market characteristics. A faculty member since 1985 and a Coggin College of Business Lifetime Research Fellow, Paul continues to serve as director of the Local Economic Indicator Project (LEIP) and as an expert witness in litigation involving economic damages. Paul is a frequent speaker in the local community on macroeconomics and related topics. As a long time youth athletics coach and participant in local initiatives, he is an outstanding community role model and he strives to promote high quality experiences for all constituencies.
frank_mackesy Frank J. Mackesy
Distinguished Alumnus

Holding undergraduate and graduate degrees in business administration from UNF and as a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Frank Mackesy joined the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in 1979 and quickly rose through the ranks. He served as Chief of Jails, Patrol and Detective divisions for seven years and was then appointed Director of the Department of Patrol and Enforcement. In 2005, he was promoted to Undersheriff and led the management of the 50+ law enforcement and public safety agencies involved in providing security for Super Bowl XXXIX held in Jacksonville.
