October 2011 CCEC Faculty & Staff Highlights

  • The CCEC Employer Showcase Fair was held on 04 October 2011 at the UNF Student Union.  There were thirty companies and organizations participating.  Approximately 200 CCEC students and 20 alumni attended the event.
  • John Gonzalez and Dr. Mag Malek published their paper, “Design of a Solar Power System”, in the Journal of the American Institute of Constructors, Vol.35, No. 2, October, 2011.
  • Dr. Chris Brown helped facilitate the 1st American Water Works Association (AWWA) “Water Tower Competition” at UNF. Twelve middle school teams and five high school teams competed on a water tower design and test.  There were about 65 persons participated in the competition.
  • Dr. O. Patrick Kreidl gave an invited presentation, “Dissecting a Worm”, at the Cybersecurity Awareness Symposium held at UNF on Oct. 20, 2011.
  • Dr. Ching-Hua Chuan served as the publicity chair for the 12th International Society for Music Information Retrieval Conference (ISMIR 2011), October 24-28, 2011. Dr. Ching-Hua Chuan also published her paper, "A Comparison of Statistical and Rule-Based Models for Style-Specific Harmonization", in the proceedings of the 12th International Society for Music Information Retrieval Conference (ISMIR 2011), October 24-28, 2011.
  • Dr. Karthik Umapathy published his book chapter, “The Language-Action Approach: Information Systems Supporting Social Actions. In Information Systems Theory: Explaining and Predicting Our Digital Society”, Vol. 2. Springer, New York. ISBN: 9781441997067, October, 2011.
  • Dr. F. Layne Wallace had a lead role in organizing the 2011 UNF Cybersecurity Awareness Showcase. Partners with UNF included the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) Jacksonville Chapter, Infragard Jacksonville, and the Northeast Florida Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA). The three day event included topics on Homeland Security, Health Care Cybersecurity, Social Engineering, Cybersecurity Compliance, Incident Handling Audits, Physical Security, Cybersecurity Law Enforcement, and much more.
  • Mr. Terry Smith, author of astronomy and physics textbooks, participated in the Astronomy Day event, "Discover the Universe," at Florida State College - Kent Campus, October 7-8, 2011.
