A non-tenure earning, 12-month Advisor-Instructor position in the School of Computing at the University of North Florida is available beginning May 15, 2014 or later.

The UNF School of Computing is seeking an academic advisor/instructor to serve as a professional advisor with undergraduate computing majors, and to teach undergraduate courses in computing. Minimum qualifications for the position include a Master's degree in computing, or a closely related field with 18 hours of graduate level course work in computing, and outstanding teaching and interpersonal skills. The advising responsibilities will consist of approximately 50% of the position and the teaching responsibilities will consist of the other roughly 50%.

Advisor Duties: The advisor will work with junior and senior level computing students on a year-round basis by providing assistance to students transitioning to the School of Computing, information to students on the academic programs and requirements needed for graduation, support to students during the registration process, an understanding of university academic policies and procedures, advice regarding career goals and by serving as a resource for students, faculty and others with questions about programs or academic policies.

The advisor will communicate and collaborate with the faculty and staff across campus on situations affecting students. They will assist with making presentations to prospective and entering students. They may coordinate special projects including the revision and development of outreach materials for website, print, and social media. Additional duties will include preparing reports required by our accrediting bodies. Other projects could include statistical analysis to increase student satisfaction and determine enrollment management needs.

The advisor may need to hire and supervise a student worker to assist with tasks necessary to advising students as the need arises.

Instructor Duties: The advisor will teach two computing courses each during the fall and spring semesters and one course during the summer term, and will participate in regional/national organization(s) that serve the computing population.
