Aquatic Center: Pool Rules & Policies

Your safety is our first priority at the UNF Aquatic Center.

 

Pool Rules

  1. Patrons must obey the lifeguard(s) on duty.
  2. Running is not allowed on the pool deck.
  3. Horseplay such as pushing and dunking is prohibited.
  4. Diving is permitted only in the deep end of the pool.
    Exception: Competitive swimmers under the supervision of a qualified coach may perform racing dives into the lap lanes. However, swimmers participating in high school programs may not dive into the lap lanes due to FHSAA rules.
  5. Adult supervision is required for all participants under 13 years of age.
  6. Any child who is a non-swimmer and unable to touch the pool bottom, must have an adult in the water with him/her at all times. Children wearing or using flotation devices are not allowed in the deep end unless they are under the supervision of a UNF Program Instructor.
  7. Swimmers are not allowed to swim underwater for distances greater than 15 yards.
  8. Pro-longed underwater swimming or breath holding activities are not permitted.
  9. Swimmers must shower before entering the pool.
  10. Playing on the ladders or diving from them is prohibited.
  11. Swimmers may not sit on or hang on the lane lines.
  12. Twirling jumps, flips, and back dives are not permitted from the side of the pool.
  13. Patrons are not to engage in lengthy conversations with the lifeguard(s) on duty.
  14. Glass containers and squirt guns are not allowed inside the facility.
  15. Chewing gum is not allowed in the pool area. Food and candy is restricted in the pool area.
  16. Band-Aids may not be worn in the pool.
  17. The use of balls, toys, and inflatable objects is permitted only with permission from the lifeguard. These items are not allowed in the deep end of the pool (except for water polo).
  18. The pool may be closed during electrical storms.
  19. Patrons must clear the pool area if an air horn is sounded (this indicates an emergency).
  20. Smoking is not permitted inside the facility or in the outdoor patio area.
  21. Any conduct that may endanger the comfort and/or safety of other patrons is prohibited.
  22. Persons with open wounds are not permitted in the water.
  23. Non potty-trained children must wear swim diapers.

 

Springboard Diving Rules

  1. Use of the high diving boards is prohibited without special permission from the management.*
  2. Diving is restricted to dives performed in a front position and forward direction. "Gainers", back dives, back flips, and inward dives are not allowed without special permission from the management*.
  3. Only one person is allowed on the boards at a time.
  4. Divers must check the area below the board to make sure it is clear before diving.
  5. Divers may take one bounce only.
  6. Diving is allowed only from the front end of the boards (not the sides).
  7. After completing a dive, divers must immediately swim to the pool side.
  8. Hanging from the diving boards is prohibited.

Membership Refund Policy

The following are non-refundable: Osprey ID cards, parking permits, 1-month memberships, and auto-renewing memberships*.


Requests for refunds of memberships (two-months and greater) can be requested at the Guest Service area for a manager to process.  A service fee and appropriate pro-ration will be applied to the refundable amount. 
*Persons with an auto-renewing membership can cancel their membership at any time.

 

Membership validity and the closure of the Aquatic Center

The last day of operation for the UNF Aquatic Center will be February 28, 2014.  Click here for the complete announcement from the university.Full programming will continue here through December 2013.  The spring months prior to March 1st are still being evaluated.  Memberships will continue to be available for sale in monthly packages for validity through December 2013.  It is likely that the Aquatic Center will operate on a reduced staff with limited hours of operation in January and February 2014.  Any pool use during these two months may be done at a daily fee rate or through purchase of a multi-pass.

Special consideration for members with a membership period beyond December 2013:  Any member with an aquatics membership expiration date beyond December 2013 is eligible for a pro-rated refund (service fees will be waived) for the duration that extends past December 2013.
