The University of North Florida Aquatic Center will host its first UNF Osprey Aquathlon, a swimming and running event, at 9 a.m. Sunday, April 14, at the Aquatic Center, Building 26, on campus.
The competition begins with a 350-meter swim in the Aquatic Center pool, and the 5K portion of the race will be held on the north side of campus, which passes through the Sawmill Slough Preserve. The race is for ages 16 and up who have the ability to swim at least 50 meters non-stop.
Swimmers will snake their way through seven lanes that are setup long-course style (50 meters). Afterwards, participants will race outside to the basketball courts, where the transition area is staged. From the transition area, participants will run a 5K race. The transition area and pool will open one hour before the race begins for warm-ups.
The price for this event is $15 for students and $25 for non-student participants before Saturday, March 16. Rates will increase to $20 for students and $30 for non-students on March 16 and will increase to $25 and $35 Monday, April 1. Fees are non-refundable. UNF students can register at the Aquatic Center for the discounted rate. Non-students can register in person or online at http://www.unf.edu/recreation/aquatics/1st_UNF_Osprey_Aquathlon.aspx.
The UNF Aquatic Center opened its doors to both the campus and the greater Jacksonville community in December 1988. Since then, the facility has developed its membership base and quality programming necessary to become one of the premier indoor, year-round aquatic facilities in Northeast Florida. In 2001, the University welcomed the Division I UNF Women’s Swimming and Diving team and became its home pool for training and swim meets.
UNF, a nationally ranked university located on an environmentally beautiful campus, offers students who are dedicated to enriching the lives of others the opportunity to build their own futures through a well-rounded education.
