University of North Florida President John Delaney has named Dr. Earle Traynham, Coggin College of Business dean emeritus and professor of economics emeritus, interim provost and vice president of Academic Affairs.

Traynham will temporarily replace Dr. Mark Workman, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, who has decided to return to a faculty position at the end of this semester. Traynham will start in May, while a national search is underway for a new provost and vice president of Academic Affairs.

“I appreciate Earle’s commitment to the University and willingness to step in and take the helm in Academic Affairs while we conduct a national search for a permanent provost,” said UNF President John Delaney.

A UNF founding faculty member, Traynham accepted a job as an assistant professor at the University in 1973. He became associate dean/director of graduate studies in 1983 and chair of the Department of Economics in 1987. He served in that post until he became interim dean in 1993. Traynham was appointed the Coggin College dean in 1994.

During Traynham’s tenure as Coggin dean, he oversaw the construction of a new state-of-the-art business building and led the college through reaccredidation and separate accreditation for the accounting programs. He earned his Ph.D. in economics, his MBA and his bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of South Carolina.

UNF, a nationally ranked university located on an environmentally beautiful campus, offers students who are dedicated to enriching the lives of others the opportunity to build their own futures through a well-rounded education.
