The College of Education and Human Services at the University of North Florida will host its third annual Camp Composition: Florida Writes!, a writing camp to aid fourth- through 10th-graders to become better FCAT and lifelong writers, from 9 a.m. to noon, beginning Saturday, Jan. 19, and running through Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, in the Tom and Betty Petway Hall, Building 57, Room 2200, on the UNF campus.
The writing camp schedule is as follows:
- Week 1, Saturday, Jan. 19: Writing Prompts for FCAT and for Life
- Week 2, Saturday, Jan. 26: Prewriting Strategies
- Week 3, Saturday, Feb. 2: Drafting Strategies
- Week 4, Saturday, Feb. 9: Revising Strategies
- Week 5, Saturday, Feb. 16: Editing Strategies
- Week 6, Saturday, Feb. 23: Writing Celebration
Camp Composition: Florida Writes! will be led by local lead area teachers who specialize in writing instruction in grades four through 10. These teachers will work with specific writing teams and will provide weekly feedback to each individual student. Stress-reduction strategies will also be taught to students by an expert.
A completed form and registration fee of $240 is required; space is limited. Scholarships may be offered to students who qualify for free or reduced lunch and/or attend a Title 1 school. A reduced fee is available for siblings.
