The University of North Florida Women’s Center and Alpha Chi Omega women’s fraternity will observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month with the 4th annual “Take Back the Night” march and candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16. More than 500 UNF students and community members are expected to participate in this event.
This event will begin with a campus march led by the UNF Drumline from the UNF Osprey Crossings Courtyard, Buildings Q-S, to the Coxwell Amphitheater, located behind the Student Union, Building 58W. The program will include a survivor speak-out and will conclude with a candle–lighting ceremony, honoring victims and survivors of intimate partner violence.
“Take Back the Night” events have been held by colleges and communities around the globe for more than 30 years and provides an opportunity for women to break the silence of abuse and victimization. “Take Back the Night” brings people together to stand in unity against interpersonal violence in their communities. The cross-campus march represents the solidarity of women and men who aren’t afraid to stand up and speak out against violence.
