Breaking through the clutter of today’s 24-hour news cycle is daunting, if you don’t have the right tools. The Banner Center for Creative Industries at the University of North Florida will offer “Breaking Your Own News,” a highly anticipated course designed to teach small business owners, bloggers, authors and other entrepreneurs how to effectively use publicity and media relations to their advantage as well as stand out among the crowd.
The one-day, eight-hour course will be held Saturday, April 28, at UNF’s University Center. Taught by award-winning media veteran Sandra Gehring, the class will offer tools and templates for writing press releases, interview preparation and multiple opportunities for practice and participation.
Gehring’s experience with CNN, NBC, CNBC and The New York Times will provide participants with a wealth of knowledge and information. Much of the course will focus on individuals positioning themselves as experts in their fields and recognizing that getting publicity is not a battle, but an intelligent partnership between media and individuals or organizations.
