Media Contact: Joanna Norris, Associate Director
Department of Public Relations
The University of North Florida Women’s Center, in collaboration with the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, will observe Sexual Assault Awareness with the "Walk
A Mile” event at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, on the Osprey Plaza at the Student Union on the UNF campus.
“Walk A Mile” aims to raise awareness of the severity and frequency of atrocities against women. The event will honor and remember those who have lost their lives to violence or survived sexual violence.
The sexual assault awareness event will feature men walking an outlined course in women’s high- heeled shoes or other decorated footwear. Along with these activities, informational booths and tables will be available to educate students, faculty and staff about the community resources available associated with sexual assault intervention and prevention.
Additionally, there will be a “Clothesline Project,” which is a physical representation of victims or survivors of any type of sexual violence. The clothesline items will be color-coordinated in respect to the type of assault or incident that has occurred. Students will decorate a shirt, bed sheet or pillowcase to honor or remember those who have been affected by sexual violence.
