Past American Dietetic Association President Speaks at Annual Us Luncheon

The University of North Florida’s Us Group, along with UNF’s Brooks College of Health, will feature Dr. Judith Rodriguez, who served as the American Dietetic Association president during 2010-2011, at its annual educational luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, at the UNF University Center Banquet Hall. She will discuss “Weigh Your Choices: Eat Right for Lifelong Health and Weight Management.” Check-in and registration begins at 11 a.m. The

Rodriguez, a Southside resident, serves as chair and professor in the Nutrition and Dietetics Flagship Program in the Brooks College of Health at UNF. She received a Ph.D. from Rutgers University as well as a master’s and bachelor’s degree in nutrition from New York University. Additionally, Rodriguez completed an internship in dietetics from Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. During the past 30 years, she has been involved in a variety of community and professional activities related to nutrition education, food and culture, health disparities and cultural competence.
“Dr. Rodriguez is very well respected nationally and internationally for her nutrition expertise,” said Dr. Pam Chally, dean of UNF’s Brooks College of Health.
“Since she travels the globe on speaking engagements, the University is thrilled that she will be presenting to the Northeast Florida community at this year’s event.”
Rodriguez has authored the “
Latino Food Lover’s Glossary
” and “The Diet Selector.” She has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the Florida 2001 Distinguished Dietitian award as well as an award by the Girl Scouts of Gateway Council during its 23rd annual Women of Distinction luncheon for her leadership role in public health awareness and the advancement of her profession.
This is the ninth annual women’s health event sponsored by the Us Group, a volunteer organization promoting health for Jacksonville’s women and girls through special initiatives, which supports the UNF Brooks College of Health. All proceeds support the endowment fund for the Women and Girls Health Research Professorship, focusing on health and education for women and girls in our Jacksonville community.
