North Florida Golf Team Garners National Attention
Athletics Director of Media Relations
The North Florida golf team’s successful performance during its fall tournament schedule has resulted in some national attention with the Ospreys earning Top 10 national rankings in the collegiate golf polls.
UNF is fifth in the Golfweek rankings and listed seventh in the latest Golfstat ratings.
In four fall competitions, the Ospreys finished among the top three teams in every event including a pair of tournament titles at the AutoTrader.com Invitational and the Amelia National Intercollegiate.
North Florida also collected a third-place showing at the prestigious Isleworth Invitational, which featured a field of 15 teams all ranked in the Top 100.
Along with some well-earned team recognition, a trio of UNF golfers is also ranked among the Top 50 individuals in the nation.
Junior Sean Dale, who has Top 10 finishes in all four events, is ranked ninth by Golfweek. The 2010 Atlantic Sun Golfer of the Year, Dale has carded scores of par or lower in 10 of 12 rounds this fall.
Kevin Phelan, a two-time all-conference junior standout, is ranked 36th and senior Kevin Aylwin claimed the No. 41 spot on the list.
“Being ranked fifth in the country is a great accomplishment for our players,” said seventh-year head coach Scott Schroeder. “It shows us that we can compete with anyone in the country. The fact that we have three guys in the top 50 is great. Those young men are really focused on being great and have done a wonderful job this fall being prepared at every event and then playing well.”
The Ospreys will take the next three months off from competition before returning to the links Jan. 30-31, 2012 at the JU Invitational.
