Osprey Radio, the University of North Florida’s student-operated campus radio station, has been nominated as a 2011 “Best Student-Run, Internet-Only Station.” The radio station is among five universities in North America and the only Florida university competing for the title.
The honor comes from the College Music Journal, a radio and broadcast industry leader, and is the first such recognition for Osprey Radio. According to CMJ.com, the four other nominees for 2011’s “Best Student-Run, Internet-Only Station” are Fusion Radio (University of Toronto Scarborough); KUSF in Exile (University of San Francisco); Rainy Dawg Radio (University of Washington); and Radio UTD (University of Texas at Dallas). The nominees were announced last week.
“This nomination is the highest honor at this stage in the game,” said Andrew Landis, Osprey Radio station manager. “It reaffirms that Osprey Radio is doing the right thing.”
Voting will take place for the award during the weeklong CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival in New York City, where the winner will be announced at the College Day awards ceremony Thursday, Oct. 20.
Osprey Radio, which has been in existence less than 20 years, serves UNF through its cutting-edge music format and by offering students real-world production opportunities. The UNF radio station streams on its website, http://www.ospreyradio.com, and on campus cable, Channel 171.
