The University of North Florida’s Department of Campus Recreation will offer three great camps this summer, including Youth Sports and Fitness Camp, EcoCamp and Soccer Skills Camp with coach Ray Bunch.
Summer camp registration begins Tuesday, March 1. New this year, all registration will be done online. Visit www.unf.edu/recsports/ to register for any of the three summer camps. If you need help registering your child, call the Department of Campus Recreation at (904) 620-2998. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This summer marks the 30th year for UNF Youth Sports and Fitness Camp, which begins Monday, June 13, and ends Friday, Aug. 12, for children between the ages of 5 and 14 years old. The camp utilizes the state-of-the-art facilities on the UNF campus, such as the indoor, Olympic-sized swimming pool, UNF Arena, the soccer stadium and more. Each day offers something different for campers, including flag football, stickball, tennis, track, soccer, arts and crafts plus field trips every week to locations such as Little Talbot Island, Metro Park, a Suns baseball game, bowling and more.
Parents can drop off campers at 7:30 a.m. and can pick them up by 6 p.m. The cost is $185 per week per camper for the general public. The cost is $115 per week for UNF students, $140 per week for UNF USPS employees and $150 per week for UNF A&P employees. A 10 percent discount is available for multiple children and active military (ID required). Parents will need to provide lunch and the camp will provide an afternoon snack. The camp offers a lunch option for an additional $30 per week, including a bag lunch on field trip days.
EcoCamp, a fun outdoor summer camp, will be held Monday, June 13, through Friday, Aug. 5, for children ages 6 to 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $200 per week for the general public and is $185 a week for UNF faculty, staff, students, active military and multiple children.
Campers will hike through the woods, go fishing, discover lake critters, swim at the pool, learn to canoe and visit many different habitats on the UNF campus. Eco Camp Advanced is also available for kids 13 to 15 who are ready to get an in-depth look at nature, from food-gathering to fire-building skills.
Soccer Skills Camp with coach Ray Bunch is for any boy or girl ages 5 to 13 that love to play soccer. The camp combines the experience of players and coaches to create an atmosphere of learning that is fun and exciting. Soccer players of all ability levels will feel at ease at a camp where instruction is both individual and in small groups.
Weekly sessions are held starting Monday, June 13, and running through Friday, July 29, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Daily activities include warm-up games, basic instructions and techniques, swimming, group and individual instructions and small-sided games. Cost is $199 per week for the general public and $179 per week for UNF faculty, staff, students, active military and additional children.
