Three years ago, Mr. Lindley participated in the pro-am during the practice round of the John Hayt Golf Tournament and was impressed with the professionalism and demeanor of the UNF students. Since that experience, the Lindleys have been enthusiastic supporters of the tournament and the University of North Florida.
Last year during a tour of the UNF campus and visit with men’s golf coach Scott Schroeder, the Lindleys became aware of the athletic department’s plans to launch an NCAA Division I women’s golf program in the 2012-13 season. Intrigued by this idea, the Lindleys decided to take a pro-active support role both in action and monetarily. Along with their donation, the couple has met with a several women who share their sincere interest in developing the UNF women’s golf program as well as a few LPGA Tour participants.
The women’s golf program at UNF is slated to begin NCAA competition during the 2012-13 season. A national search to identify a head coach is scheduled for later this spring, while the 2011-12 season will be utilized for recruiting, scheduling and player development.
