Press Release for Wednesday, January 12, 2011
Joanna Norris, Associate Director
Department of Public Relations
The University of North Florida’s Department of English will hold auditions for the April Shakespeare-in-the-Park production of “The Tempest,” from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17; Thursday, Jan. 20; and Friday Jan. 21; in the Andrew A. Robinson Jr. Theater, Building 14A. Auditions are open to members of the University and Jacksonville communities.
“The Tempest” will be a multi-cultural production, with roles for 25 males and females of all ages, races and ethnicities. There are also roles for musicians, vocalists and dancers. Shakespeare’s last play features the dominant images of a storm at sea, a shipwreck, spirits and a magic island in this beguiling romance.
Music auditions will be held Thursday, Jan. 20, for vocalists as well as wind and percussion instruments. Vocalists should bring CD accompaniment or be prepared to sing a cappella. Actors will be auditioned all three days.
A short, two-minute prepared monologue is suggested for everyone auditioning for a part but is not required. All auditioning actors will read from the script. Parking is available in Parking Garage 44, next to the Fine Arts Center, or in Parking Lot 12, adjacent to the Fine Arts Center.
The production is co-sponsored by the City of Atlantic Beach and will run two weekends at UNF, with additional performances at Russell Park in Atlantic Beach.
