Assistant Director of Athletic Media Relations
University of North Florida head women’s basketball coach Mary Tappmeyer announced today the full 29-game schedule for 2010-11 featuring road contests against North Carolina, Cincinnati, Florida and South Florida as well as 14 home games.
The A-Sun schedule consists of a full 20-game round robin, with the Ospreys playing each of its 10 conference foes once at home and once on the road.
The Ospreys will begin the season on the road at North Carolina on Friday, Nov. 12 at 4 p.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C. UNF remains on the road for a game at Cincinnati on Nov. 14 before returning to UNF Arena for its regular season home opener against Florida Atlantic on Friday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.
“We have a challenging schedule to start the season with games and North Carolina, Cincinnati, Florida and South Florida,” said Tappmeyer. “These games will help to prepare our team for the A-Sun games. Our team will be tested on the road early, but we feel the experience gained by playing against teams from the ACC, Big East and SEC will really pay off once we get into conference play. We felt the team really came on strong at the end of the season and we are looking to build on that momentum as we enter the 2009-2010 season.”
UNF hits the road for its next two contests, facing Florida at 7 p.m. on Nov. 23 and Savannah State on Nov. 28 at 1 p.m.
The Ospreys will play five of its next six games at home, beginning with Florida Gulf Coast on Dec. 2 in the A-Sun opener. UNF will follow that up with games against A-Sun foe Stetson (Dec. 4) as well as the annual Lady Osprey Holiday Tournament (Dec. 18-19) where the Ospreys will face Troy and Bethune-Cookman, respectively. Following the holiday break, the Ospreys will wrap up the home stretch with Long Island on Dec. 31. The lone away game during the stretch will be against South Florida on Sunday, Dec. 12.
UNF will get into the heart of the Atlantic Sun schedule beginning in January with three straight road games, starting with Campbell on Jan. 5 followed by games at Belmont (Jan. 8) and Lipscomb (Jan. 10). The Ospreys will return home for contests against USC Upstate (Jan. 15) and East Tennessee State (Jan. 17) in a rematch of last season’s A-Sun title game.
The team will be back on the road to face Mercer on Jan. 22 followed by Kennesaw State on Jan. 24 before returning to UNF Arena for the first of two annual SunTrust River City Rumble games against Jacksonville on Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. which will wrap up the first half of the conference schedule for the Ospreys.
The JU game will mark the first of a four game conference home stand for UNF which includes Campbell (Jan. 29), Lipscomb (Feb. 3) and Belmont (Feb. 5). The remaining Atlantic Sun home games are against Mercer (Feb. 18) and Kennesaw State (Feb. 20).
UNF will play five of its last seven on the road beginning with Jacksonville (Feb. 8), ETSU (Feb. 12), USC Upstate (Feb. 14), Stetson (Feb. 24) and Florida Gulf Coast (Feb. 26). The regular season will conclude with the Atlantic Sun Championship, March 2-5, in Macon, Ga.
