The University of North Florida’s string of summer golf success continued as All-American golfer Sean Dale qualified for the upcoming U.S. Amateur Championship after finishing second in the qualifier event held Monday and Tuesday at Sawgrass Country Club.
Dale, the Atlantic Sun Player of the Year and rising junior at UNF, finished with a two-day total 140 including the low round of 68 on the final day to secure his spot in the championship. The qualifying event marked the completion of five straight days of competition for the Jacksonville native, who also competed in the Jacksonville Area Golf Association Amateur Championship last weekend.
Earlier this summer, Dale captured the title at the 93rd Annual Florida State Amateur Championship. This marks his first appearance at the U.S. Amateur.
Former UNF standout J.C. Horne (142) finished as the first alternate for the Sawgrass qualifier with Dale’s Osprey teammate Joe Byun (143) earning the second alternate spot.
The U.S. Amateur Championship is the oldest event hosted by the United States Golf Association (USGA) with former champions including the likes of Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Justin Leonard. The 2010 U.S. Amateur is being held Aug. 23-29 at Chambers Bay (par 71/7,742 yards) in University Place, Wash.
