University of North Florida Cadet Earns Top Army ROTC Honor

A University of North Florida student was recently recognized as the top cadet among more than 470 Army ROTC students in his unit at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington. The ROTC students were training and testing to become Army lieutenants during a U.S. Army Cadet Command’s Leader Development and Assessment Course this summer.

Harry Tierney, a UNF graduate student pursuing a master’s degree in Business Administraion, earned the honor of being the No. 1 cadet based on his performance during training this summer. Being recognized as the top performer in a regiment is a significant achievement and places Tierney among the top Army ROTC Cadets in the nation.

The 29-day course, also known as Operation Warrior Forge, is the Army ROTC’s capstone training and assessment exercise. Cadets at Warrior Forge are tested on their physical stamina, endurance, ability to navigate over difficult terrain and their team-building and leadership skills. An award was presented to Tierney at a regimental graduation ceremony July 29.

Thousands of college students from around the globe converge each summer to attend the course. Successful completion of this rigorous training is a prerequisite for becoming commissioned as a U.S. Army lieutenant. More than 6,300 Army ROTC cadets will attend Warrior Forge this summer.
