University of North Florida men’s and women’s track and field teams
gathered 13 Atlantic Sun All-Conference awards in the 2010 A-Sun
Outdoor Track and Field Championships that took place over the weekend
at Hodges Stadium.
North Florida’s women claimed third place with 119 points for the third straight year. Jacksonville took its fifth consecutive A-Sun title in the outdoor championships with a total of 247 points. The Ospreys men’s team totaled 22 points in their seventh place finish.
finishing last season second in the high jump at the conference
championships, senior Elise Trexler set her sights high for 2010. She
claimed the A-Sun title in the event, with her height of 1.68m. This season’s all-conference award was the third outdoor honor of her four-year career at UNF.
with Trexler’s high aspirations for the season, senior Ashton McGuire
also set her goal to be crowned No. 1 in the javelin throw, which she
was Saturday evening, stepping on top of the championship podium with a
first team all-conference selection for her throw of 40.97m. McGuire recorded a personal best throw, beating the competition by 1.39m.
the field events, sophomore Kayla Mobley, picked up a third team
all-conference award in the discus throw with a distance of 43.95m,
breaking the UNF school record, which was set by her earlier in the
season at the Embry-Riddle Spike’s Classic. Freshman Ashley Gonzalez
tallied her personal best in the discus throw, finishing seventh place
with her throw of 37.27m.
Jennifer Smyth earned her second all-conference award in the 2010
championships by placing third in the triple jump with a distance of
11.81m and breaking UNF’s school record. Smyth earned a third team all-conference award yesterday in the long jump (5.62m).
Senior Hillary Adams placed second in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:40.71. Adams
recorded eight points for the Ospreys, by earning the A-Sun Second Team
All-Conference award for her first all-conference honor as an Osprey.
the only Osprey competitor to run the 100m hurdles, freshman Jasmine
Jackson ran a 14.77 for a fifth place finish in the event. The native of Vero Beach, Fla. also placed fifth in the 100m dash (12.12).
Charisma Anderson was the top finisher for the Ospreys’ in the 100m
dash, burning a time of 11.97 for a third place finish. The
Tallahassee, Fla. native also finished third in the 200m with a time of
24.53, which was good enough for her second A-Sun Third Team
All-Conference award of the day. The four-year letterwinner earned the first all-conference honors of her career.
Kayla Conrad placed fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:14.58. Freshman
Jaybria Calcote finished sixth for the Ospreys in the 400m in a time of
56.94. Sophomore Ava Rivera (58.67), junior Alicen
Livingston (1:00.27) and junior SaLydia James (1:00.87) took 10th, 11th
and 12th respectively.
In the 5000m North Florida placed ninth on the men’s and women’s side
with junior Sammy Palmer and freshman Meggie Emons, crossing the lines
at 15:31.60 and 18:15.21, respectively.
the men’s 400m dash, freshman Ashdon Mills was able to add three points
to the men’s overall score with his sixth place finish (49.14),
breaking the school record. Freshman Aaron Tillman tied for ninth place with a time of 49.82.
Ospreys scored six points in the 800m with freshman James Post’s third
place time of 1:51.96, which beat last year’s meet record. Post’s top three finish landed him the third team all-conference award.
UNF’s 4x100m relay team finished second behind Jacksonville (45.16) with a time of 46.39. Senior Anne DelBovo, Anderson, Jackson and James made up the foursome breaking the school’s record.
Both the men’s and the women’s 4x400m relay teams picked up third place finishes for all-conference honors. The men’s freshman team made up of Nick Squillace, Justin Mims, James Post and Ashdon Mills ran a time of 3:18.92. Freshman
Jaybria Calcote, Conrad, Anderson and sophomore Ava Rivera, who were
apart of the women's 4x400m relay team broke the school record with a
time of 3:48.16.
