UNF earns No. 4 seed in NCAA Regional

The University of North Florida golf team earned the No. 4 seed and will travel to College Station, Texas to play in the NCAA Regionals hosted by Texas A&M at the Traditions Club. The three round tournament will take place on the par 72, 7,146-yard course May 20-22.


“We are looking forward to traveling to Texas,” said head coach Scott Schroeder. “The course is supposed to be real good. The weather will be similar to what we have here which is good for us, but first we are looking forward to a good week of practice.”


UNF is currently No. 21 in the Golfstat standings and No. 22 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Joining the Ospreys at the Traditions Club will be No. 1 seeded, host team No. 3/2 Texas A&M. No. 11/13 Texas Tech earned the No. 2 seed while No. 16/12 Georgia grabbed the No. 3 seed. No. 24/21 TCU rounds out the list of top-25 teams that will be in the field with the No. 5 seed.


Rounding out the field with the No. 6 seed is No. 34/33 Pepperdine, No. 37/35 Auburn, No. 51/55 North Carolina, No. 52 Baylor, No. 58/67 Tulsa, No. 61/59 Rice, No. 65/69 Wichita State, Georgetown and Jackson State.  


Individually for the Ospreys, sophomore Sean Dale holds the No. 13 spot on the Golfstat standings and is No. 25 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Freshman Kevin Phelan is 85th in Golfstat.


The Ospreys finished second in their last outing at the Golden Ocala Invitational, hosted by Florida. In the two-round tournament, UNF scored a 2-under, 574 at the Golden Ocala Golf Club. The Ospreys finished in front of No. 10 Florida State and No. 46 UCF.


Sophomore Joe Byun and freshman Kevin Alwin led the team, tying for fifth with 3-under, 141’s. Dale tied for 11th with a 1-under 143 while seniors Jordan Gibb and J.C. Horne finished 15th (1-over, 145) and 19th (2-over, 146), respectively.
