     UNF TV: Campus Connection

The University of North Florida produces a half hour, monthly public affairs talk show called “UNF: Campus Connection.” This show features students, faculty, programs and services from UNF. This show airs in Jacksonville on CW-17 and Comcast. It also airs on public access channels in Boca Raton, Tampa, Brevard County, Central Florida, Palm Beach County, Polk County, St. Johns County, Sarasota County and throughout the Florida panhandle. In addition, the show airs across the country on the DISH Network.

UNF sends sensors into the stratosphere

UNF Assistant Professor of Economics Dr. Christopher Johnson and his student, Laura Rivera, discuss the study of economics, research and job opportunities. Then, Communication Department Chair Dr. David Goff and journalism student Saman Quraeshi discuss community-based transformational learning. In the final segment, Dr. Nirmal Patal, a lecturer in Chemistry and Physics, and engineering student Nathan Walker talk about their work on a project that sent sensors into the stratosphere to make determinations about the ozone.

This show features Thelma Young, a UNF English student, and her new book about the experiences of children who survived Hurricane Katrina. The show also features UNF anthropology professor Dr. Gordon Rakita, and senior Nichole Bishop, a UNF anthropology major. The two discuss how anthropology is used to study our society and culture. In our final segment, Dr. Michael Hallett, UNF Criminology & Criminal Justice chair, and senior Jesse Daniels, a UNF criminal justice major, discuss the complexity of the criminal justice field.

Dr. Dominik Guess and psychology student Daniel Robison discuss a travel abroad program to Germany, including an emotional visit to a concentration camp. The final segment of the show features math and physics student Victoria Martin, who recently completed an internship at NASA.
Award-winning mystery novelist discusses new book

This show features Dr. Michael Wiley, a UNF English professor, and his new award-winning mystery novel, “The Last Striptease.” The show also features UNF management instructor Fred Pragasm, and senior Alex Chavez, a UNF marketing major. The two discuss a trip UNF business students took to Zambia, Africa, to aid budding entrepreneurs.

Dr. Adam Shapiro, chair of the Sociology and Anthropology department, and student Peter Sabotka discuss the study of human behavior and Peter’s internship working with survivors of human trafficking. The second segment features Ambassador Nancy Soderberg, a visiting distinguished scholar in UNF’s Political Science and Public Administration department. She and her student, Estelle Lee, answer questions about the trip the class took to Washington D.C. to meet with government leaders to discuss nuclear weapons.

The show also features Dr. Dan Richard, a UNF psychology professor, and UNF alum Jonathan Hawkins. The two discuss a study abroad trip to research conflict resolution. In the final segment, Dr. Judy Rodriguez, UNF nutrition professor, and Dr. Cathy Christie, nutrition program director at UNF, discuss their new book “The Diet Selector,” which gives the skinny on 75 different diets.
